Reflecting on the Research Project

Overall, I had a great learning experience when doing this project. I learn a lot about the Marriage and Parenthood package in Singapore and also packages in other countries to attract a higher birthrate. Most importantly, I learnt to write up a formal report which I have never done before. This is something that will be very useful for me in the near future.

Throughout the whole experience, I am very grateful that I have two really responsible team mates. I must thank Derek for being such a good leader too. From them, I learnt that having clear communication is very important. We often have to split the work because we are too busy to meet up with each other. Therefore, we constantly update each other on our latest progress. This has greatly helped us to communicate with each other effectively as we are all clear with the latest happenings in our project.

It is also important to have good interpersonal relationships with teammates. I have heard from my friend in other class that she cannot get along with one of her team mates and she really had a hard time completing her project. In my opinion, it is important to show concern for your team mates. For example, if one of them is busy with tests and assignments for the week, then he/she will be assigned with less work or more time will be given to him/her to complete his/her part. Little gestures like this can build up a friendly and comfortable environment for us to discuss issues and to do our project together.

Most probably, we will be meeting up outside lessons to prepare for our oral presentations. I hope that all of us can come prepared for our meetings. I also hope that we can stay focus and not get distracted to playing mahjong or surfing Facebook so as to get things done fast.

Dear Mongshi,

I cannot agree with you more on being understanding and helpful towards each other when distributing work among group members. The cooperation in our team helped me in coping with other assignments due during the week 8. I was really grateful. Although we did not meet often to do the project outside lesson time, we still managed to complete the tasks assigned by sharing the work. The effectiveness in clear communication among the group members helped us in assigning the work, and thus, completing the report efficiently without having to spend time on traveling to a common place for meeting. I am looking forward to working together with you for the rest of the project. See you in school!

P.S. I don’t remember playing MJ

For my group, we also need to spilt the tasks and do our part individually. Hence I agree with you that having clear communication is important as without it, there will be no coordination and no work will be done.

Good interpersonal relationship is indeed essential in a team. If one do not enjoy working with his/her group mates, there will be conflict and it will definitely affect the quality of the project work. Interpersonal relationship need to be built up especially when ‘strangers’ are group together to do a project as a team. Hence as what you mentioned, little gestures to show care and concern are needed to build interpersonal relationship. Have an open heart to make new friends, have fun with people and care for people, will allow one to develop good interpersonal relationship with others.

Hey MongShi,

You are really blessed to be in such a fabulous team, whereby all your group members are team players.

It is indeed true that a clear communication helps to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the group.

I agree that by doing this project, it does build up friendships. At the same time, we can make foes if we are too tactless with our words or display nonchalant attitudes towards others' opinions.

All the best for your oral presentation! =)

Hey Mongshi,

It's really nice to have a team where the members help each other at times when they have alot of work to do, covering up for each other and working towards completing the total objective, and not taking advantage of each other's kindness. It's really encouraging and it makes working together more enjoyable.

On top of that, I can see that the 3 of you have a pretty good rapport with each other. Something that every project group would aim to achieve to have a better working environment.

Overall, I'm glad that you have had a good time working together with Madeline and Derek, and good luck for your oral presentation=)

Hi Mongshi,

I find that was you mentiond about working together hand in hand together with your group members is very important with good communications is very important.

Its quite funny when you mentioned that you played mahjong and also facebook during your meeting. I find that having the right amount of that will help relieve stress and even also forge good relationships through gossips over mahjong and facebook. But we must also remember to keep it at a manageable level as to no to affect our work.

Looking forward to see you group's presentation. Good luck!!

Cheers,
Darren

Hi Mongshi(t),

I am glad to hear that you had as much fun as I did throughout our research project. To me, having a good rapport with your teammates would be a good indicator of the quality of work that would be produced. With that I sure hope we did enough on our own individually to ensure we are not the group with 63 marks, although we didn't meet up much outside of lesson time.

Even if we did, I am sure the lessons we have learnt through this project would stay with us forever and make us better "communicators" when the time comes for another project. Best of luck to our presentation!

Derek

Hey mongshi,

It's fortunate for you that get along really well with your team members and have established great interpersonal relationships with them. I believe that it has helped your group produce more effective work.

I also believe that volunteering for more work to cover ypur teammates when they are busy is important and understanding.

Hi Mongshi,

From your entry, I can really see that you enjoyed the process of working with your team mates. Thumb up for you! I think in a way, I had exactly the same feeling as you. My team mates were really very supportive and responsible, which made the entire project process a fun and smooth one. This is really a hard to come by experience because in many occasion, we will encounter people who have entirely opposite working style from us and often leads to conflict if ones is not skilled enough in term of communication and interpersonal skills.

Therefore, I totally agree with the point you had brought up in your entry about the importance of having a good interpersonal relationship with your group mates. This is an essential factor to ensure good communication and working experience within a group.

Adding on to the point that you had mentioned about showing care and concern for team mates, I think it is also important that members within the group could find time to share how they feel during the process of working together and give feedback to one another so as to enhance the working experience. However, instead of conducting the evaluation after the project, perhaps having the feedback session while doing the project could better facilitate the working experience.

Cheers,
Xinyi
